Watauga Valley Art League
Art league Information
and contact persons
Watauga Valley Art League was formed in the fall of 1969 by a small group of
Northeast Tennessee artists. The first meeting occurred on the campus of Milligan
College on November 13, 1970. It was 1972 before the members had their first art
show. It was a desire of the league to develop and share the love of art in the
area, to encourage fellow artists and build support for art among the public.

Now in the early 21st century, WVAL is comprised of nearly 100 members
including professionals, art teachers, hobbists, amature artists and some who just
love fine art. The media and styles vary among the members who meet on the
third Sunday of each month at 2:00 PM in the Johnson City Senior's Center.
Meetings feature programs by local artists who provide demonstrations and share
personal techniques and styles. Members must be at least 18 years old and may
do acrylics, oils, watercolors, pastels, pen and ink, calligraphy or sculpture.

The League sponsors a minimum of four shows each year and also provides
opportunities to display art through the Roving Gallery. The Roving Gallery
provides artwork to a variety of businesses in the area. Paintings are changed
by-monthly and the public have opportunity to purchase them if they wish.
