Early years in the art-minded town of Sarasota, Florida and an art scholarship to Stetson University influenced Patsy Kelley Reading to return from years of commercial art to become an acrylic wildlife artist in 1991. The Erwin, Tennessee artist presently uses canvass, Arches paper, eggs and gourds as the ground for her artwork. Studing under the Tennessee artist, Urban Bird, led Patsy into watercolors to portray her birds and wildflowers. It was this same influence that persuaded Patsy to add oils to her media and to branch into portraits and pet portraits. The artist's latest awards are two honorary awards at the Newal-Hendershot Watermedia Exhibition in 2005 and the 2003 Merit Award at the Summer Sycamore Shoals Show in Elizabethton. All of these endeavors have placed Patsy Reading Joyfully in the middle of "Art Among the Gourds". |
